Inappropriate Television Commercials

There Not Only Just for Adults

Carlos Stepp
I want to start off by saying that television commercials are not only for adults, but children too. That is why I am writing this article to explain what is defined as appropriate content that should be allowed on certain stations. I watch a lot of television ads and I view most of them as to be incoherent jibberish.

As for adults, (just as an example) your sitting around your home with some friends and a commercial for viagra (or any other erectile dysfunction) comes on. Now I know if men have this problem, they are going to seek help by way of a doctor, we do not need to be told of a product that we can find out elsewhere about. The internet right off hand comes to mind.

I have actually seen feminine deodorant spay ads on the cartoon network. I know that I am not the only one who finds this disturbing and disgusting. If we would just take the time to realize that almost half of americans who watch tv are children. We all complain about television being a big part of growing up and alot of our violence comes from what we let our kids watch.

I find that suitable commercials are enjoyable and entertaining, fun to watch and remember, but the ones about body oder, that time of the month or bob and his wonderful anatomy are embarrasing to hear about when your sitting around watching tv with your children. Can you tell me of one person that hasn't experienced that at least once in their lifetime.

Now comes the part of what we, as human beings, can do about this. We can write to our congressman, take out an ad in a newspaper or include your opinion on a website to let parents be aware of what is going on with television nowadays. As a parent myself, I can honestly say that at least half of all other parents do not really have the knowledge of what their children are watching and some don't even care.

Say you put it on a program that you know that has sufficient content, but what you don't know is what commercials they will be showing on that station. Certain ones should be on at a specific time and some shouldn't even be shown at all. So having said all that, is todays television appropriate for todays children, I think not, and I am sure that alot of adults and or parents will definitely agree...so thank you for letting me have this opportunity to let you be aware, and know of, what is going on in the world that we live in today...Thank You

The company that does those sex explicit ads, cares less who views them. sitting with my grand kids watching a good movie, up pops a viagra ad with 2 people sitting in bathtubs. Iam so at my wits end concerning these ads. iam 66 yrs. old, never in my born days have i had to see something as sick as this on tv. our children are over exposed. America is HELLBOUND !!!!!

I do not know what happened to my previous comment or why it posted that way. KY,Viagra, Tampons, Hemmorhoid Creams, and now a personal massage gadget that will blow your hair back. Everyone has to stop doing everything because one person is offended. These commercials offend everyone. We have to get the greedy networks, etc. to stop airing these commercials. What do we have to do to get America to stand up and protest these immoral and indecent commercials. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It's now over a year later, and things have only gotten worse. Any day now, I expect to see Victoria's Secret models pole dancing and ripping off their clothes. The image will cut just as a nipple or genitallia are about to appear, but we'll see EVERYTHING up to the very last moment.

you need to edit your grammar.
    *They're
    *you're
    *a lot
    *Can you tell me of...lifetime?
but i like it otherwise :)

I totally agree with what you're saying. I definitely think our children are over-exposed and that some ads should not be on t.v. at all.
I think first of all, the world has gone crazy in regards to what they find appropriate for public display (whether it be on the television, video clips, billboards, or the front covers of magazines).
Secondly, I think we all, as adults and as individuals, should be able to choose what we view ourselves. My husband and I feel very strongly about this and we're sick of being bombarded with sexualized images and comercials everytime we choose to watch a bit of television late at night, or everytime we go out for a family outing to the movies etc.
It was only yesterday my husband and I took our son to watch "Old Dogs" at the cinema, and one of the first advertisments that came on was a woman's lingerie one! I mean who in their right mind has a photo of four girls in lingerie on the big screen right before a children's movie?? I am proceeding to com

It amazes me that the same FCC that fined Janet Jackson and a network for a quick flash of breast allows 'male enhancement' commercials and those 'his and hers' KY ads in the middle of the day on channels children watch. Advertising is not content - it has no social benefit and there are no ratings for commercials. People can turn off shows they don't want, can filter their TVs, but the ads keep coming. Why does Quiznos need to disgustingly imply an inappropriate relationship between its toasting oven and doofy looking sandwich maker? How sick is it for the oven to beg for the torpedo sandwich to be inserted? Ironic that advertisers will withdraw ads from controversial shows, but they have free rein with smut and poor taste all day and all night with the hapless viewer themselves....
