Gators fans in Central Florida won't want to miss the inaugural 2008 Gator Gala on Saturday, August 16 at the Ballroom at Church Street, 225 S. Garland Ave. in downtown Orlando.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with an open bar and silent auction. At 7:30 p.m., enjoy a delicious plated dinner with complimentary glass of wine and listen to presentations by University of Florida President Bernie Machen and a student recipient of a Florida Opportunity Scholarship.

Silent auction items include autographed sports memorabilia, theme park tickets, spa baskets and more. You'll also have the opportunity to have your photograph taken with Albert & Alberta, UF's mascots, donned in their best evening wear.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Florida Opportunity Scholarships. These scholarships are for academically talented students who have been accepted to the University of Florida. However, their families earn less than $40,000 per year and neither parent has graduated college. These talented students may be overwhelmed by the costs of obtaining a college education, and these scholarships ensure students won't be turned away due to financial difficulties.

The event is sponsored by the Central Florida Gator Club. Silent auction donations and corporate sponsorships are still available. E-mail info@centralfloridagatorclub.com for more information, or visit the Club's Web site at www.centralfloridagatorclub.com.

Tickets are $125 per person, or purchase a table of 10 for $1,250.
