Their ability to enter into an alternate realty of the mind through architectural vision is a premise never seen quite like this before. This ability is depicted in the most innovating way ever since before in cinematic form. 'Inception' introduces an alternate reality within the mind and brings it to life. Through the concept of a parallel world within the mind, the notion of architectural structure and deconstruction begins. The film's director Christopher Nolan brings sheer genius together with cinematic magic to create a most surreal and alternative world within a world. Nolan who is known for his dark film style was in his element.
When it came to the visual context of this ultimate in sci-fi technologically advanced filmmaking, Nolan did not hold back. The exploration of interior mind is ultimately like exploring the very last frontier known to man. The concept may seem far fetched at first, but as the film progresses the concept of the mind consisting layers within an architectural realm unfolds with splendid results. The film was shot in Paris, Tangiers, and Toyko. While both Paris and Tokyo are noted for their architectual significance throughout history, Tangier presented the raw aspects of architecture in the film in its representation of the nation of Mombasa.
The film is remarkable and massive in scale with angular interior images that formulate the interior of the mind. While exploring the mind through architecture, the audience is treated to a gamut of sensational visionary interior spaces and architectural landscape. Through what is known as dreamscape, the enlisted architect uses her knowledge and skills to 'bend the rules of physics." The film challenges the basic premise of design, reality and architecture in order to access the realms traditionally kept off limits. See photos of the mind bending architecture here.
