Increase the Alkaline Foods in Your Diet

A pH balancing diet is a new and different way to look at how you eat. Your meals should be geared to maintain a healthy balance of food and drink with 80% alkaline and 20% acidity.

Our bodies function the healthiest when the alkaline is the highest, however, most people indulge in foods that are considered high in acidity. The solution to adding more alkaline into your diet is to identify good sources of alkaline.

High acid foods cause the body to break down prematurely. Alkalizing foods act as a tonic to the body regenerating and restoring damaged cells.

All families have picky eaters, and since vegetables and fruits are the easiest ways to get more alkaline into your diet, select the ones that your family likes the most to use in their daily meals.

Alkalizing vegetables are: alfalfa, barley grass, beets, most greens, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, dandelions, eggplant, garlic, green beans, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, parsnips, peas, peppers, pumpkin, radishes, rutabaga, spinach, sprouts, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and wheat grass.

Fruits with an alkalizing effect are: apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, berries, blackberries, cantaloupe, cherries, coconut, currants, dates, figs, grapes, grapefruit, lemons, limes, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, pineapple, raisins, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, tangerines, tomatoes, tropical fruits, and all melons, including watermelon.

All animal protein is acidic, and should be used more sparingly. It's possible to add proteins to your diet that will have an alkalizing effect in your bloodstream. Proteins that are alkaline are: almonds, chestnuts, millet, tempeh, tofu, and whey protein powder.

By using spices you can add delicious flavor to your recipes. Some popular alkalizing spices and condiments are: cinnamon, curry, ginger, mustard, chili pepper, sea salt, miso, tamari, stevia, and herbs.

Taking a vitimin and mineral supplement will add to your daily nutrition, the minerals that have an alkalizing effect on the body are: potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.

Other popular and effective ways to add alkaline to your diet are: apple cider vinegar, alkaline water, bee pollen, lecithin, molasses, yogurt with live cultures, vegetable juice, real fruit juice, and mineral water.

Health food stores can supply you with pH strips to test your acid/alkaline levels. You should strive to keep your pH at 7.5 or above. Test your saliva and urine daily to determine that you are maintaining your alkaline at 7.5. After you have established a good habit of eating correctly, you will only to need to check your pH levels periodically to ensure you are staying in top condition.

It is good advice to check with your family doctor before making any major changes to your diet.
