Increase Blog Traffic: 10 Ways

You've got your blog set up and running. You are posting regularly, and you have a few regular visitors, but you want to find some ways to really increase blog traffic. Here are some of the easiest ways to increase traffic to your blog.

1. Blog often, every day even. People like fresh content and prefer blogs that are regularly updated.

2. Ping your blog. Every time you make a new post, go to pingomatic.com and follow the instructions to Ping. This will notify blog directories of your blog's updates to help increase blog traffic.

3. Create a MyYahoo feed with your free Yahoo account. By adding your blog's feed to your MyYahoo page, you will get your blog indexed faster and increase blog traffic through natural searches on Yahoo and other search engines.

4. Submit your blog to blog directories. Three of the blog directories that get the most visitors are blogcatalog.com, bloggernity.com, and blogarama.com.

5. Write articles relavent to your blog's topic and submit them to free article directories. Use the directory's provided resource box to include link to your blog. Submitting to article directories will get your blog better page rankings and also help to increase blog traffic through natural searches.

6. Visit blogs related to your own and leave comments. Do you blog about parenting? Visit other parents' blogs. Make your comments original and insightful, rather than just saying something like, "Enjoyed your blog. Visit me online at ..." Not only are those types of comments annoying, they are often deleted as spam.

7. While you're on your search for related blogs, consider linking to some of the better ones you think your visitors would enjoy. Many bloggers will link back. Don't forget, you can also link to websites. The more people who link to your blog, the better page rank you'll get from search engines. A good page rank will increase blog traffic.

8. Use signature lines to your advantage. Include a link to your blog in your emails. If you post on message boards or discussion forums, include your blog's link in your signature lines there, too.

9. Purchase a domain name for your blog. You can get a domain name cheaply, easily for under $10 per year. Choose your domain name wisely. Make sure your domain name not only relates to your blog but also includes keywords people might type into a search engine while looking for a blog like yours.

10. Sign up with Google Adwords if you can afford to. For people on a tight budget, choose the lowest priced option at 25 cents per day. You can choose to promote through keyword searches and/or through having your link placed on related sites. Both ways can increase blog traffic.

  • People like fresh content and prefer blogs that are regularly updated.
  • Write articles relevant to your blog's topic and submit them to free article directories.
  • Visit blogs related to your own and leave comments
When it comes to blog traffic, quality is more important than quantity. If you focus on getting 100 targeted visitors to your blog, you will be much more successful than if you had 1000 non-targeted visitors.
