Robin Neorr
You are in control of your fertility. Whether you are trying to conceive now, or are looking to conceive in the near future you want to make sure your body is in check.

A healthy body will produce healthy babies. You need to make sure that you treat you body as a temple and quit smoking. Not only do you need to refrain from smoking, but you need to make sure your partner is not smoking. Smoking decreases male sperm count by 17%.

Follow a healthy eating program. If you are a fast food addict, now is the time to pass on McDonald's and switch over to fertility friendly fair. You want to work to decrease the load of processed food that goes into your body. The excess fats and additives in processed food decrease your fertility. The chemicals in processed foods build up in your body over a period of time. The more processed food you ingest the harder your body's organs and system's have to work to rid itself of these chemicals. The chemical buildup decreases your body's ability to cleanse itself decreasing your fertility. Reduce the chemical load in your body even further by choosing to eat whole organic foods.

Increase your water intake to at least six cups a day. Staying properly hydrated allows your body to function properly. The water you drink should not be ice cold, but rather room temperature for easier digestion. While you are increasing your water intake it is important to also decrease, or eliminate your coffee intake.

You and your partner should refrain from alcohol when trying to conceive. Alcohol puts a burden on your liver. The workings of your liver affect your sex hormones. In women consistent use of alcohol can cause ovulation to become irregular. In males alcohol can weaken the sperm. This is something often overlooked when trying to conceive.

Your weight needs to be in check. You want to have a body mass index below 25 percent. This means that a five foot five woman would need to weight less then 150 pounds. This is something that not everyone can easily accomplish, but losing just ten percent of your body weight will increase your chances of conceiving.

Regular exercise will lead to a healthy body. If you do not currently exercise now is the time to start. Do not overwhelm yourself with a five day a week running program. Begin going on walks after dinner or bike rides on the weekend. Take a weekly yoga class to relax your body and mind and prepare it for new life.

In these busy times we often overlook the importance of sleep when looking at our chances of increasing our fertility. Sleep helps your body function properly. You need seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Begin by going to sleep fifteen minutes earlier per night until you are sleeping for a minimum of seven hours straight.

These steps will not guarantee that you conceive. If you are under thirty five years old and have been trying to conceive for six months with no success, or are over thirty-five and have tried to conceive for at least one year with no success you should consult a fertility specialist.
