Increase Shine While Styling Your Hair

Shiny, glossy, and lustrous hair is a sign of good health but if your hair doesn't shine naturally, there are some simple ways to give those locks a boost. Certain types of styling products can help to increase shine and keep your mane looking soft, silky, and beautiful. You can also use heated styling tools to lock in the shine when using serums and other shine-infusing products. Whether you're heading to the office or getting ready for a night on the town, use these simple tips and techniques to increase shine while styling your hair:

Use a moisture-infusing hair mousse. Hydrating hair mousse can help to improve the texture of your hair and also keep it shiny while styling. Use hair mousse to add some volume and shine to your hair, or to create some texture when sculpting hair into a more dramatic style.

Use an ion brush.
Ionic styling brushes can add shine to your hair because they neutralize ions floating around your strands during the drying process. Use brushes and other styling tools designed with ionic plates and ionic technology to boost shine while you style.

Dry hair one section at a time.
Even though it's convenient to dry your hair just by moving the dryer up and down or from side to side, this approach can make your hair frizzy and difficult to manage. If you want a sleeker look and shinier finish, divide your hair into several sections and then use a hair dryer attachment that helps to direct the heat on only one section of hair at a time. This will improve the look and feel of your hair, and leave you with a shiny, salon-like finish.

Use a silk-infused shine serum.
When my hair is looking particularly dull and lifeless and I want a high-gloss look, I use a silk-infused shine serum when my hair is still slightly damp. These serums work like a leave-in treatment and will make your hair super glossy and shiny. Unlike some other styling products, this type of serum won't weigh your hair down with a thick coating.

Use the cold air setting on your hair dryer.
After you're done blow drying your hair on full heat or are using various heated styling tools, switch to the cool setting of your dryer to "set" your style and make your hair shiny. A blast of cold air can keep flyaways at bay and will also make your hair a little shinier.
