Keep search engine optimization in mind when putting content on your website. This means you will have key words which will be based on the audience you are targeting. Use these words repeatedly, but make sure that they fit into your content appropriately. Don't over do it. Your content should sound natural. Then when the webcrawlers look for content for the search engines, they can skim through your site and pick up on those words and phrases. This will help determine your ranking on the search engine. And ultimately, it will help the people you are targeting, find your site and therefore increase web traffic to your site.
Another way to increase web traffic to your website is through link exchanges with other sites that are trying to reach the same audience as you. This is a very effective way to bring in traffic, and it doesn't cost anything to do it.
Offer special incentives. Give your customers more than just the product they are buying from you. Provide them with a freebie as a way of saying thank you. This will give them a reason to come back for more. This may even inspire them to encourage people they know to buy from you. Word of mouth is a very effective marketing tool and it's free.
Try to keep in touch with your customers, if at all possible. You can accomplish this by providing regular newsletters, or by having a chatroom or forum. Always include the address of your website with the signature of your emails. Another way to keep your customers coming back is to have contests. Use your website to announce the winners. There are a lot of sites that hold one contest after another. So this is another opportunity for you to have even more links to your domain. Constantly add fresh content. The search engines love this. And the webcrawlers will find your content even faster. Be patient. Remember to increase web traffic takes time.

Post a CommentWendy, you mention some of the elements necessary to achieve sales through a website. I argue against what you recommend in your last paragraph, "Offer special incentives." I think that this can be detrimental to the website owner, and to the client. I believe those who offer services and products through a website may gain a good reputation (word of mouth promotion) by simply delivering what they claim they can deliver without resourcing to freebies. Businesses inherently add value through their services and products when they fulfilled their promises. Does the product do what it stated it would do, and did the service perform the contracted functions? Offering extra incentives can be a leak of resources, and a source of future headaches. It could be a source of opportunities, but my point is that it be a distraction from delivering what was originally intended.
