Increasing the Memory Capacity on Your Motorola V3 Razr

Chris Jones
A guide to explain step by step how to increase the memory on your Motorola V3 Razr so you can store more pictures, videos, and sound recordings or songs.

The Motorola V3 Razr has a fairly large memory capacity, up to 11 megabytes of memory to be exact, for such a slim phone. However, Motorola fills the cell phone with a lot of extra pictures, advertisements, and sound files that takes up memory and space. This guide will show you how to get rid of those useless junk files and free up to 9 megabytes of memory on your phone. That way, you can personalize your Motorola V3 Razr to your own liking.

Equipment and Software

The only equipment that you will need is a USB cable and a p2k program called P2kman. You can do a Google search and download the file or visit ModMyMoto.com and look in the downloads section. Furthermore, the USB cable can be purchased on eBay.com for less than 5 dollars. Often times, if you purchase the item from overseas, it costs less than 1 dollar. Yes, I am not kidding. It only costs about 55 cents or so to purchase a USB cable that is shipped to you from Hong Kong and it includes free shipping.

Connecting to the Computer: Installing the Proper Drivers

The first part is to connect your phone to your computer. Plug the smaller end of the USB cable into your phone's power jack and the other end into the USB port on your computer. After the computer detects the phone it will most likely automatically install your Motorola V3 Razr. Then it should say installation of device complete.

However, sometimes your computer will not recognize the device. Do not panic. There are solutions to everything. If you go to the following link, you will be able to find the driver files that you need to select after you connect the cell phone to the computer. Then the installation process will go smoothly.

Deleting the Extra files to Maximize Your Motorola V3 Razr Memory Capacity

After you have the phone set up and recognized by your computer or laptop, run the program P2kman. This program will allow you to explore the file system on your cell phone. But more importantly, it will allow you to delete files that are protected (which means you cannot delete them physically using the phone).

So first, you need to navigate to the /a/ folder by using the window on the left. Then the contents of the folder will be shown on the right. Delete the following files

DL_DB_INET_RECORDS

moto.tcf

Scarlet.tcf

Silver Screen saver.gif

After you have deleted the those files. Delete the whole direction /a/mobile/mms/mmstemplate/. You do not really need any of the files.

Then, proceed to the directory /a/mobile/picture. Delete all the files that end in .emp and all wv and wp files. You can also delete the pictures that come preloaded on the phone if you want, such as Caribbean.jpg and Food.jpg. It is up to you, but think about it this way... if you free up space, you can add pictures of your own preference.

After you have cleared the pictures and image files, go to the videos folder (/a/mobile/video/). Delete the annoying HELLOMOTO.3gp, which is the video that comes preloaded on the Razr. It takes up a lot of memory so be sure to delete this.

Also, go to the skins directory which is located under the mobile directory. Then delete the folders for Scarlet and Silver. These skins are pretty much useless since you can always install your own custom skins.

Finally go to the /a/mobile/system/ folder and delete the file (secure_pds_init). This fixes the annoying error message that always pops up after a flash.

That is about it. Just follow those directions and you should be able to increase your memory to about 9 megabytes! Now you can customize your Motorola V3 Razr with your own ringtones, background pictures, and videos! For more on customizing your Motorola V3 Razr, please look at my other articles!
