Increasing Productivity when Working from Home

Increasing Productivity Increases Earnings

Working from home can help you to cover your expenses without having to pay additional expenses such as child care. You also avoid the commute and the drama of traditional workplaces; although there are times when productivity can suffer just because you're at home. There are some things that you can do to increase your productivity while working from home.

Routines

Create a routine for yourself that allows you to include work, rest and family time in the schedule that you have created for yourself. Mornings before anyone else gets up are ideal for relaxing before the start of a long day even when you're a night owl by nature. Those that wake up early naturally don't need to use an alarm clock while those that do need to set it so that they have had a reasonable amount of sleep (unless you have an early appointment) so they feel rested in the mornings.

Whatever your routine whether you drink your coffee first or shower and dress first you should make it a point to keep it the same or as close to the same every day. While you drink your morning coffee you take a moment to go over your daily schedule. If there are somethings on there like emptying the dishwasher or doing laundry you can do these before you begin making breakfast or whatever else you have to do.

At night you want to include time to wind down. This will help you to rest better which will get you better prepared for the next day. No one can be productive when they're exhausted so a good's nights sleep is one of the best ways to have a productive day.

Schedule's and To Do List

You need to make a rough schedule so that you know when you can work even if you stay at home to do it. A 'to do list" will help you to know what you have to do each day. The night before is a good time to create the next day's list; if you can write it at the beginning of the week you'll just have to add to it as things come up. Going over the list in the morning will keep you focused and taking a second look at night will help you to see what you accomplished. Seeing what you accomplished while working at home will help you to see what you still have to do. Make it a point to mark off the items on your lists as you get them done.

An Office

Having an office to work out of with set office hours will help you to focus better. Placing a sign on the door will let people know when you aren't to be disturbed and hopefully they will honor it. Setting up the office so that invites you to work will make you even more productive than eliminating outside interruptions will.

Make It Clear You're Working

There is a tendency to think that you aren't doing anything just because you are home. Even with all the attention working from home and home based businesses have gotten over the last few years people still have a tendency not to understand. Do not stop working to answer social calls and stop running errands for others while you need to be working.

It's easy to increase your productivity when you work from home. You just have to prioritize and make it clear to those around you that you're not free to socialize during "office hours" but you'll be glad to see them once you finish your work.
