Incredible Indie Bridal Shower Ideas

So you're throwing a bridal shower for an indie bride? How can you give her a bridal shower as unique as she is? Here are some ideas to get you started.

Does the bride love vintage items from the 1950's? Consider having the shower at a local diner. Or, have it at your home and serve burgers and shakes. Cut circles out of black card stock to look like records, and use a white paint pen to write the shower information on them for unique invitations. Create a play list with Elvis, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole and Patti Page songs. Instead of a traditional bridal shower game, have a hula hoop contest. Cat eye glasses make cute favors for this shower.

Are the roaring 20's her style? Create a shower with a Great Gatsby theme! Ask guests to wear a 20's outfit. Take pictures in black and white or alter them in a photo editing program and send a few sepia toned prints to the bride afterwards. Give guests a copies of The Great Gatsby as favors or if that's too much for your budget, vintage hankies or costume brooches would be appropriate. For decor, daisies would be cute nod to Daisy Buchanan and doilies are very vintage. Puddle pearls and roses under glass bell jars for opulent centerpieces. Serve canapes on flowery china.

Is your indie bride concerned about the carbon footprint of her wedding? Give her a green bridal shower! Start by sending guests invitations on recycled paper printed with soy ink. Serve organic, locally grown food on real (not disposable dishes) and use cloth napkins. Decorate with flowers that are in season. Give soy or beeswax candles as favors.

What about butterflies? If the bride is planning a butterfly theme for her indie wedding, you could easily incorporate this into the shower. If there is a butterfly garden or sanctuary near you, check and see if you could have the shower there. Print your own invitations to keep the costs down, and decorate them with a butterfly stamp from your local craft store. Find decorative cloth butterflies to place among flowers in centerpieces. Serve salad in keeping with a garden theme and cupcakes in these butterfly wrappers from The Knot's Wedding Shop. For favors, a butterfly cookie cutter would be sweet or give guests packets of seeds for flowers that butterflies like, such as marigolds and zinnias.

If feathers or birds are the bride's thing, consider decorating with ceramic birds. You can also add pretty feathers to floral arrangements. For a sly touch, serve quiche or omelettes since they're made from eggs. On the invitations, write, "Let's help Susie feather her nest! Come to a bridal shower Saturday, May 22..." For favors, you could give guests candy eggs like these from Candy Warehouse.
