Incredible Retirement Communities for Retirees Looking to Retire in Style

Joyce Carole
In my past life, I had the opportunity to work on the finances for several retirement communities. This experience certainly shattered any preconceived notions that retirement communities were places to be avoided at all costs. There are many incredible retirement communities that provide a wide variety of amenities for discerning seniors. Here is a list of two of the best retirement communities.

The Garlands of Barrington Retirement Community in Barrington, IL

I had the opportunity to be involved with the companies that put together the initial finance for this incredible retirement community located in the upscale community of Barrington, Illinois. The Garlands of Barrington began construction early in 2000. There are several phases to this upscale retirement community. Residents have the option of purchasing individual luxury retirement villas or retirement condos. There is a gourmet restaurant, which I have eaten at and can attest to the superior quality of the dining experience. The Garlands of Barrington has a fitness center, walking trails in a lovely park like setting. The Garlands of Barrington has everything a retiree could want in a retirement community. It is not inexpensive, but the quality is definitely there for those who can afford the price.

Passavant Villas Retirement Community near Pittsburgh, PA

Passavant Villas is one of several retirement communities operated by Lutheran Senior Life. This retirement community is located in the small picturesque town of Zelionople, PA. I visited Passavant Villas several years ago, while working on a marketing project for the community through Robert Morris University. This retirement community is moderately priced and offers many amenities for retirees. There are several housing options for seniors including villas, cottages and apartments. The numerous amenities include a library, in-house gym and various activities. Passavant offers long-term care and skilled nursing for those who require the services. They also offer care for those with Alzheimer's disease.

Choosing to leave your home to move into a retirement community can be a daunting prospect. There are many more living options available for seniors looking to move to a retirement community. These two are ones that I have personal knowledge of and would recommend to my family members. My advice to seniors who are thinking about moving to a retirement community is to take your time, visit many and ask many questions. Choosing a retirement home is an important decision that you should make with great care.
