There's no denying that the monogram trend is hot right now. In fact, it is even translating into the cabinetry in your home. A few home design blogs and magazines have recently featured bathroom cabinet designs with custom monograms. This style can inexpensively be yours, too, with this incredibly easy monogrammed bathroom cabinet project.
For This Project, You Will Need:
- Bathroom cabinet in fairly good condition
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Pencil
- Monogram stencil of your choice
- Masking tape
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a bright or dark color of your choosing
- Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss Black or Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss White
- Newspaper or a large drop cloth
- Facial mask
Due to the sanding and spray painting in this project, it is best to work in a ventilated area and wear a facial mask. Cover any areas you do not want over sprayed with paint using a large drop cloth or several sheets of old newspaper. Carefully remove the cabinet door from the bathroom cabinet.
If you are opting to paint the base of the cabinet, sand it with a few sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust or debris caused by sanding with a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth. Prime the base cabinet using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint it with several coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a bright or dark color of your choice. Keep adding paint coats until the original color of the wood no longer shows through. Dry overnight.
Again, repeat the sanding, priming, and painting process as described for the base cabinet above. Once the paint is fully dry, place the monogram stencil in place using masking tape. Use a pencil to trace the outline of the monogram onto the cabinet. Remove the stencil and any masking tape.
Fill in the monogram design using a Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss Black or a Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss White. Wait an hour before adding a second coat of paint to the monogram design. Dry overnight before reattaching the cabinet door.
TIP: Many different monogram stencils can be found at your local craft store or the paint section of your local home improvement store.
