Independent Wrestling Stars You Don't Know: Malachi

Spotlighting Rising Talent in Pro Wrestling

Jason Willis
He stands only five foot nine and weighs 190 lbs. but this young man packs power and technique into a small frame. He is Micah Cox aka Malachi (not to be confused by others who use the same name in Northern promotions) a staple in southeastern independent promotions. He is featured in a full size photo in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Wrestling Annual issue (April 2008) on page 61.

Malachi was initially trained by Rusty "The Gambler" Stallings and later trained by women veterans Susan "Tex'' Green and Judy Martin, both of whom have had stints in the WWF. Billed from South Beach, Florida, Malachi went through several character incarnations and gimmicks to get where he is today. He started out as The American Dragon and then later as Micah Steamboat in the Spartanburg, SC-based American Pro Wrestling. From there he became Mykata, using his former experience in judo and martial arts to become a standout babyface (good guy) in American Classic Wrestling based in Charleston, SC. A heel (bad guy) turn however would shape his current character and change his wrestling style forever.

Cox became Malachi, an arrogant heel who's slogan became " I care about no one else but me". He turned on his former tag team partner, Minion and became a singles standout in the Orangeburg SC-based Champions With Attitude holding its Television championship, tag team championship (twice) and cruiserweight championship. CWA's exposure through its On Demand TV show brought Malachi newfound exposure and popularity. He has wrestled such standouts as Team 3D, Spike Dudley aka Brother Runt and Christopher Daniels. He now wrestles fro NWA Anarchy in Cornelia, GA which has been a hotbed of wrestling talent and has produced such stars as newly acquired TNA star Consequences Creed.

Malachi combines a hard hitting technical style with hihg flying moves and incredible agility. With eight years of experience under his belt and at only 26 years of age, don't be surprised if very soon Malachi lands in WWE's cruiserweight division or TNA's X-division.
