So they have finally made more Indiana Jones for those diehard fans that are now pushing fifty or possibly sixty. Nothing wrong with that due to the fact that the Indiana Jones series is one of those timeless genres that appeals to any age of viewer. It adds mystery, adventure and a little of the unexplained all together into one. I suppose there are those out there that won't like this film. Fair enough, they are diehard fan boys that will be dead soon and we can respect your opinion until that day. I'm usually on their side in fact. Continuing a series so long after the originals always sounds like someone is trying to cash in one more time on an aging racehorse. But this time I think they will get quality out of their repetitive money grabbing. When I was in my seat I felt like I was watching a true Indiana Jones movie.
So we open the scene with Indiana being captured by a bunch of Russians that are after a dead body the U.S military has been hiding in a warehouse on the area 51 base. Indy fights his way free and is present in person for the very first atomic bomb test. There is an amazing shot of him standing on a hillside looking up at the mushroom cloud that nearly made my jaw drop. Anyway, it turns out the Russians are after the body because it is not of this earth. They believe that the race holds the key to unlock psychic powers in humans. A little far-fetched I know, but what else would you expect from an Indy flick?
Now Indy is contacted by a young man named Mud, that claims an old friend of his, Ox, has gone missing looking for a crystal skull. Indy recounts a legend about a golden city that can be unlocked with the skull and the power there within. They immediately begin being chased by the Russians as they escape and go in search of his friend and the skull. Along the way the retrieve the young man's mother whom is Mary Ravenwood from 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. It turns out that Mud is actually Indy's son. This twist begins a strange family adventure, as the group fight their way to the ancient city and try to unlock its secrets.
I don't want to give too much away. Believe me, telling you that Mud is Indy's son isn't much of a give-away. There are some very strange things in this movie that make you wonder if perhaps things thousands of years ago could have been shaped by the hands of greater beings. Trust me, the ride to the truth is well worth the wait and the price of your ticket.
