On July 29, the Indiana Fever will face the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The game will start at 7 p.m. EST. Currently ranked number one in the Eastern Conference, the Fever will attempt to hold on to their lead. I do not think it will be hard for them to maintain their ranking as they face the Mystics who are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Trying a New Streak
The Indiana Fever destroyed their seven wins in a row on July 15 with a loss to the Minnesota Lynx of 70-80. They were not able to regain their winning streak immediately, and their loss to the Connecticut Sun of 71-76 was followed by another loss to the Atlanta Dream of 74-84. The Indiana Fever are currently working on starting a new winning streak after success at the last two games.
After their successful game against the Chicago Sky on July 21, that ended with a score of 77-63, the Fever reemerged. On July 28, Indiana defeated the Connecticut Sun 69-58. The Fever are starting a new winning streak and have the advantage of the Mystics losing their last three games. In addition, the Indiana Fever have been able to win six out of the seven games they have played against the Mystics in the past.
Good Signs
The Indiana Fever were able to beat the Connecticut Sun on July 28 without the help of Katie Douglas who was sick. Although this veteran is an integral part of the team, I am glad to see that they are still capable of scoring and winning without her. It was encouraging to see Shannon Bobbitt step up, so I hope to see the same type of cooperation at the next Indiana game.
On the other hand, the Washington Mystics have been struggling this season, so I do not expect them to recover for tonight's game. Despite having forward Crystal Langhorne on their team, the Mystics still have serious issues preventing them from rising to the top of the Eastern Conference. I anticipate defense and offense problems for the Mystics at the next game.
