Indiana Jones Coming Memorial Day Weekend 2008

The Long-awaited Fourth Indiana Jones Finally Has a Release Date

BoxOfficeMojo.com has broken the news that the Indiana Jones Fourth movie will be coming to a theater near you next Memorial Day Weekend. The website is claiming that Paramount has announced this date, and Indiana Jones fan-based website, TheRaider.net confirms that they received the same information from DreamWorks.

May 22, 2008 is the date that the Fourth Installment of the Indiana Jones Adventure (official working title) will open in theatres worldwide, not just in the US. May 22 is a Thursday, and follows the trend started by Star Wars episodes and The Matrix, which all opened before the official weekend in order to add another day's box office receipts to the open weekend totals.

Other movies that have been scheduled to open that same weekend include Speed Racer and the Chronicles of Narnia's next installment, Prince Caspian. No doubt that at least one of those will be re-scheduled as the Indiana Jones film is expected to draw a huge audience. Many just to see how 64-year-old Harrison Ford will handle another turn as the adventure-prone archeologist.

Other recent news is that Spielberg's long-time cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski, will take over the photography from Douglas Slocombe, the British cinematographer who shot the first three films, and retired with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. Kaminski is a two-time Oscar winner that has worked with Spielberg since Schindler's List, and won his Oscars for that film as well as Saving Private Ryan.

Sean Connery recently told Scotsman.com that he is considering reprising his role as the Senior Dr. Jones in the next film, but nothing has been settled or confirmed. Another wilder rumor was that Clint Eastwood was offered a role in the next film, and though that rumor spread across the web for a couple of days, the news was never confirmed by any credible source.

MonstersandCritics.com reported earlier that Harrison Ford had threatened to leave the film unless he can use a real whip. Safety laws have changed since the last film, and supposed the signature whip has to be added digitally as to avoid any harm to anyone. No word on how that will be settled, but surely some consessions will be made for the Indiana Jones juggernaut.

The Fourth Installment of the Indian aJones Adventure has been in the works for the last couple of years, and has been delayed due to rewrites. David Koepp is now the credited screenwriter for the George Lucas story. Steven Spielberg is of course directing. The last news released through the official Indiana Jones website was on January 2, 2007, stating that production will begin this summer. Neither the Paramount nor Dreamworks websites provide any news on the film, only those films they are releasing soon.
