Indiana State Representative Dembowski Fails to Make Logical Economic Connections

Nancy Dembowski, Indiana State Representative for District 13, wrote commentary in the March 11 issue of The Leader, which is the local newspaper of Knox, Indiana where she served as Mayor before rising to the ranks of state government. Her commentary shows the Congresswoman's inability to connect Cause to Effect.

In one paragraph she talks about the need for "helping our state's small businesses," but then she quickly goes on to talk about ways to "claw back incentives" from those very same businesses.

She discusses 2009 laws that were passed to increase unemployment insurance "premiums" (read: taxes) on businesses to replenish and keep up with the dwindling funds available for unemployment payouts. Dembowski sees this approach as a solution to unemployment, but in truth it is a tax on business, and the bottom line is business is the ONLY source of jobs for any of us, including Ms. Dembowski herself.

No matter what kind of tax breaks or incentives are handed out, the truth is government does not create jobs. Only businesses have the ability to create jobs and new wealth, which in turn generates taxes and replenishes all those red-ink accounts politicians are so worried about.

If Dembowski wants jobs in Indiana, she should stand back and let businesses do what they know how to do, rather than worrying about "clawing back" whatever it is she thinks the government has bestowed up them.

  • Dembowski believes that jobs are created by governement
  • Dembowski wants to "claw back incentives" given to businesses
  • Demboski wants to increase unemployment taxes on businesses

Correction: Dembowski is District 17, not 13! Sorry for the confusion.
