With a name like Flying Cupcake you know you're in for a real treat. Walking through the doors of this sweet and kitschy bakery is definitely an experience that you won't forget. And it will leave your mouth watering and mind spinning!
The Flying Cupcake is privately owned and operated and located just minutes from downtown Indianapolis. Inside you'll find enough kitschy decorations (placed perfectly, by the way) to fill 12 movie sets of Alice in Wonderland! From an oversized calculator to ring up orders to crocheted cupcakes sitting prettily in cake stands, The Flying Cupcake Bakery has more than just sweet treats for your taste buds. They have delicious decorations and a yummy atmosphere sure to please the young and old alike!
As for the food, you'll be coming back for more the second you dig into your moist and cutely-named cupcake. And the prices can't be beat for these home-made delicacies! Purchase 1 cupcake for $2.50, a jumbo-sized cupcake for $3.25 and mini cupcakes are a tiny $1.50. You can even purchase by the dozen (bring them to the office or back home and you're sure to be a hero) for only $24.00.
The Flying Cupcake has received quite a bit of press in the last year after being known as a "hidden gem" in the Indy City. In 2007 they received an award for the "Best of Indy" contest in the category of "Best Cupcakes."
Here are a few of their most popular cupcakes:
Red Velvet Elvis (my personal favorite and the one you see in the picture) - Fit for a King: dreamy red velvet cupcake loaded with chocolate chunks and topped with soft cream cheese icing and white chocolate shavings
Cheesecake Blues - Blueberry cheesecake cupcake on a sugar cookie crust.
KooKoo for Coconuts - Coconut cupcake filled with coconut cream and topped with creamy coconut cream cheese icing
Pretty in Pink - Sweet strawberry cupcake with real strawberry packed cream cheese icing.
Auf Wiedersehen - German chocolate cupcake with classic homemade coconut and pecan icing
Razzamatazz - Raspberry filled chocolate cupcake with raspberry buttercream icing
What's up Doc? - Moist carrot cupcake packed with coconut and raisins topped with velvety cream cheese icing
Cinnamon Sugar - Sweet and sugary vanilla and cinnamon cakes topped with cinnamon sugar buttercream
Peanut Butter Blackout (another favorite) - Rich chocolate cupcake with creamy peanut butter icing
I give this fun and unique establishment 5 stars. It's a great place to bring your girlfriends, your significant other, your mother, grandmother and children. And it's a great place to bring yourself, too!
