Indianapolis Nightlife: Enjoy a Wednesday Night at Chammps Restaurant

If you live in the Indianapolis area (more specifically the northside of town), summertime brings the concert series at Chammps. The band on Wednesday night is Dave and Rae, and it is always a fun (but a little crowded) time had by all. Dave and Rae cover songs from a wide range of decades in a pretty unique way. Before you head out there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, you need to get there early. This place will be packed by 8:30, and parking will be a nightmare. Once you find a good parking spot, your next chore is to claim a good place to hang out in the band area. You want a location where your group can stand/sit and regroup if needed. You do not want to be stuck right next to the speakers. It is really loud there. The other key is to great server. Getting a drink at the bar can be a little rough. If you get a good server, he or she will come around and take care of your drink orders. It might take them a whole to get back to you, but it is better than you having to fight the crowds yourself.

It cannot be stressed enough that it will be crowded. If you are not a fan of crowds, this is not the place for you. There is very little room to dance at times, and getting from Point A to Point B could be a struggle. It will get warm if not miserably hot out on the dance floor. Dress appropriately. Even if it is a little chilly, you will be very warm by the end of the night.

Unlike other outdoor events, there are real bathrooms. This is a major step up from the port-o-lets you usually find. However, there is only one restroom for each gender and both are not very big. If you need to go, use the restroom early on. After about 8:30, the lines become very long. Most times it is just better to wait. Yes you will eventually get through the line, but you will miss a great deal of the show in the process.

The band stops playing at 11:00, but the party does not have to over. People still linger in the patio area well after all is said and done. Not to mention there seems to be quite a few people who make the migration to Lulu's (a bar across the street) before retiring for the evening.
