The band has just released their new self-titled full-length debut, the follow up to their 2010, 'Singles for Singles' EP. The new album includes several songs taken from that EP ("Keep You Around", "Nobody Falls in Love Anymore" and "My Thoughts Are Killers") along with several brand new tracks. The band's press material says that they wanted to give the old songs a, 'proper release', so they've reworked them and decided to include them on the new release.
Stylistically the band's music is mostly Indie pop in nature lead by both the piano and guitar parts that are found in the songs. One of the main themes lyrically that's found in the band's music revolves around that often misunderstood emotion of human love.
Tracks that stood out for me include, "The Chase" that mixes a pop/rock sound into its lyrics that deal with someone who enjoys the chasing part of love but can't ever make a real commitment to anyone. "Cruel Love", is another Indie pop track about love. "Pinhole", is an interesting sounding track that starts off with a nice repeated mellow guitar riff and drum part. The song has a slightly alt sounding vibe that's found on it. "Keep You Around", is an up tempo track featuring both male and female lead vocals on it. And the releases last track, "Happening" brings things to a nice musical end.
If you listen carefully to the band's music you'll hear little nuances type noises and sounds that happens mostly in the background, but helps to add another layer to their sound.
If you're looking for some well crafted Indie pop music you can't go wrong with the new self-titled release from Portland, Oregon band the Ravishers.
