Indifference

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
I have made such a practice of acting indifferent about things
that many people believe I truly am indifferent.
Success and failure all rolled into one!
I do care; I just don't like letting people know
that they have the power to -and do sometimes- hurt me.
If I told you that I loved you, would you return the sentiment?
If I asked you not to go,
would your laughter echo as you walked out the door?
I know I cannot blame you for not knowing for certain how I feel,
but can't you tell by the touch of my fingertips on your skin that I adore you?
Do you not see it in my eyes that I see only you?
