Individualization

"To be or not to be, that is the question."

Do we want to be like everyone else? Following in groups, finding out the latest trends, or doing something because it's cool? Do we want to jump off a bridge when everyone else does or are we going to keep walking down that road to see what's at the end?

For a lot of people it's the normal following everyday expectations of what others think they should look like or how they should dress. That they should work out, eat healthy, or participate in like-minded hobbies that those people indulge.

We strive to be our own person in a world that promises the best in conforming to the masses. We try to think of new material, new products, something to help differentiate ourselves from any one other person with two eyes, ears, arms, and legs. The truth it that everything is taken from something else. Very rarely do we come across a gem so rare that it's considered a 'breakthrough to humanity' and 'never done before'.

Whether that be a completely new idea for a script that screenwriter has been searching to find, or a brand new medical cure that certain scientist has created. We're always looking to be different, to be better. We're striving to move ourselves forward in a direction that nobody has seen before.

The problem is, a lot of the things that are new to us are old news to a lot of other people. That idea you had for a script? I saw similar-like traits in a movie 20 years ago. That scientific cure that you've created? The bacteria is adapting and overpowering it now.

So you're back to step one. You've fallen down the mountain and you're ready to dust yourself off again, bruises or not. Sure, you've been burned a million times before but what if this is your lucky break?

This time, only this time will you create something so individualistic, so new and empowering, that nobody can live without it!

So now what do we do? We sell it to the masses. Suddenly that wondrous thing that you've invented is an idea of the masses. Something that can be looked at, improved upon, and changed significantly to make it better and easier.

Now there's nothing wrong with adaptation, right? Otherwise our species would have died out a long time ago. The only problem you face to make yourself individual is to understand that you are just like the other 6 billion people in the world, and it's not the things that create a unique person. It's the personality.

You can be you, but you will inevitably be leading or following a crowd in some shape, manner, or form. It's the circle of life.

Besides, let's conform because everyone wants to be nonconformist and we're so nonconformist that we're going to conform to the standard.

Writing is a window, an escape. It's the one thing that can take something apart, while simultaneously putting it together. It's a passion, an awakening, and something to keep motivation flowing.  View profile
