Indoor Lighting Ideas for Kids' Rooms: Outer Space Themes

Leveling Truth
For kids that love outer space, aliens, and the thought of going to the moon, there are countless indoor lighting ideas that will quickly and easily make their bedrooms their favorite space in the house.

Glow in the Dark Stars

In lieu of a traditional night light, glow in the dark stars on the ceiling are tons of fun in a kid's room. Glow in the Dark Stars are available at retail stores like Wal-mart or Target and often are available in colors or with planets too. They are a fabulous and inexpensive alternative to keeping a light on all night long.

Sun and Moon Jars

If you grew up with mason jars than you and your kids will love the Sun and Moon jars! They look like regular mason jars except inside they have a solar cell, a rechargeable battery, and an LED lamp. You place the jar in direct sunlight and the solar cell "charges" the battery in a few hours. Then, at night, the stored energy powers the three LED lamps in the jar! The jar is frosted so it gives off either a sun glow or a cool moon glow! There are no visible on and off switches or controls, but a sensor inside automatically turns on the LEDs when it gets dark!

Moon in My Room

Kids love to look out the window and see the moon at night. Now, kids can have their very own Moon in My Room! The National Geographic Moon in My Room, available at retail stores like Target, has a built-in sensor which makes the moon light up when it gets dark. The moon mounts on the wall of a kid's room and features the 12 phases of the moon in true-to-life details. Now your child can enjoy the fascinating light show of the moon directly from his or her bed!

In addition, the mason jars are air tight so they can be used outside and in all weather conditions! This is another awesome alternative to a night light and one that can be taken camping too! Sun and Moon jars are available online at thinkgeek.com.

Rocky the Rocket Ceiling Light

Rocky the rocket ceiling light has to be just one of the cutest lights your little astronaut will ever set eyes on! Available at childrenslighting.co.uk this ceiling light is just so cute! If my little astronaut lived in the UK this one would definitely be a cool addition to his space room! Or, if you have an electrician handy who could safely wire it for a US bedroom you might still consider it.

Rocket Jetblast

Available at LampsPlus.com the Rocket Jetblast ceiling light fixture, is more like an up-scaled version of Rocky the Rocket. The Rocket Jetblast extends 18 inches from the ceiling, has a curved support, satin nickel fins, and a frosted glass rocket body. It uses two 60 watt bulbs and this is sure to be one blast off of a light fixture in any kid's room.

Space Station Ceiling Light

Also available at LampsPlus.com the Space Station Ceiling Light is another great lighting fixture for a kid's room. The center light is shaped like a space station and two astronauts hang down from the space station.

Laser Stars Projector

For the ultimate out of this world experience, consider a Laser Stars Projector. Available online at space stores and specialty stores such as thinkgeek.com, the Laser Stars Projector is about 10 inches tall and projects constantly moving and changing green laser stars and blue laser clouds onto the ceiling, walls, or wherever. How cool is that! There is literally a galaxy of stars to look at and with several different settings, the stars can easily cover an entire ceiling and several walls at once.

The Laser Stars Project features green laser and holographic technology, 2 built-in precision glass lenses, and projects thousands of stars with (or without) blue clouds. It comes with an AC Adapter.

Whatever lights you choose to brighten the dark ceiling of your astronaut in training's bedroom, are sure to be loads of fun! Your child will not be able to wait until it's time to blast off into bed and go to space...uh, sleep!
