Industry & Factory: The Advantages of Static Mixers for Fluids

Static Mixers as an Alternative to Mixing Tanks

John Melendez
For small- to medium-sized operations which work with liquid solutions such as water-soluble chemicals, one way to reduce costs and increase efficiency is to replace your costly mixing tanks with static mixers that you can develop in-house or buy for at a relatively low cost.

Static mixers can also address many of the problems brought on by large mixing tanks. Some advantages you can realize by using static mixers include:

  • Greater Floor Space ROI: By using static fluid mixers, the space you would have otherwise used with a mixing tank is now freed up. This recovered space can now be used for high-variety stock storage, more static mixers, or other revenue generating technologies.
  • Low Materials Outlay: Because most static mixers are relatively small, they do not require a large financial outlay. Because they can frequently be fabricated from common hardware materials, this also helps to reduce your costs outlay.
  • Reduction / Elimination of Inspection Costs and Failures:Because they can frequently be fabricated from common hardware materials, most static mixers frequently cannot be classified as a specialized form of "controlled equipment" requiring special inspections and permits. By not having to pay for these permits and inspections, your operational costs are further reduced.
  • Reduction / Elimination of Tax Liabilities:Again, because they can frequently be fabricated from common hardware materials, most static mixers frequently cannot be classified as a specialized form of equipment requiring special taxes. By not having to pay for these taxes, your operational costs are further reduced.
  • Reduction / Elimination of Insurance Liabilities: Because of their relatively low fabrication or acquisition cost, you may decide that some static mixers need not be covered under certain insurance coverage.
