One fun way to get the kids moving is to throw an Olympic themed party. Get the kids moving by hold events for them to complete in. You could have a softball toss, running races, an obstacle course, a miniature golf setup or a hula hoop contest. You can make up metals for the winners of each event out of clay or construction paper and have an award ceremony. You could set up a stack stand with homemade lemonade and iced tea. You could serve slices of pizza, veggies and dip and popcorn. You could make a cake and put sports figures on top of it to go with the whole sports theme. By creating your own special event at home, you save yourself the expensive cost of renting a sports center or gym for the party.
Another idea is to have a cooking party. You could have an apron for each child and they could help create the meal as party of the party. Consider asking each child to bring a smock if you don't want to get an apron for each child. You could make homemade personal pizzas for each child. You could precook the dough and just have the kids put on the toppings, or you could have them each toss their own pie of dough. You can have a variety of veggies, pineapple and meats for them to put on their pizzas. You could also have a make your own Sunday bar and allow kids to create a snack for dessert or maybe they could decorate their own cupcake.
A cool idea would be to throw a game themed party. You can set out video games, puzzles, board games and more for the kids to play with. You can break the kids off in group and rotate them throughout each of the game stations. You could give prizes for the winner of the game.
The last idea I have is to have an art party. Consider setting up a huge sheet in the backyard and allow the kids to do splatter painting on it. An easy way to do this is with old paintbrushes or spray bottles. You could also have other arts and crafts for the kids to do.
Whatever idea you choose, have a wonderful birthday party. Kids love doing new things so think outside the box to throw the perfect, inexpensive party for your eight year old.
