Inexpensive Christmas Decorating Ideas for Your Porch

When Christmas nears, both kids and adults enjoy perusing neighborhoods in search of creative, holiday decorations. If you'd like your house to make the list, but don't want to bust your budget, read on. This year, make sure your home is on the route by decorating your porch with some of the following festive and inexpensive decorating ideas.

Inexpensive Christmas Decorating Ideas for your Porch

Porches are so much fun and such wonderful platforms for decorating. While you aren't likely to spend much time lounging on your porch over the Christmas season, guests and carolers can still delight in your creative décor.

Candy Cane Porch Columns

Start by decorating your porch columns. Ribbon is a fun and inexpensive way to jazz up your porch columns. If your columns are already white, you'll only need to twirl red ribbon. Otherwise, use white and red ribbon to create your candy cane porch columns.

Porch Ornaments

Lights aren't the only inexpensive way to decorate a porch. Use bright colored ribbon, bright ornaments and tacks to string ornaments of various lengths along your porch ceiling and entryway.

Trash Bag Snowman

If you haven't yet bagged up your leaves, one creative decorating idea for your porch is a trash bag snowman. Fill three regular white trash bags with leaves and then stack along the corner or front of your porch for an easy snowman. Be sure to fill the bags in various sizes for a proportional snowman. Illuminate your snowman by placing a battery-operated tap light on the ceiling above. Be sure to secure your snowman.

Stair Stencils

Use free, printable Christmas stencils (find them HERE) to paint your porch floor, walls and porch stairs. Use snowflake stencils along your walls to give the appearance of snowfall. If you're particularly crafty, paint snow piles along the bottom of your walls to further the snowfall effect. If your walls are white, make your snowflakes out of baby blue felt or cardstock.

Christmas Yard Trees

Another creative and inexpensive decorating idea to ensure that your house makes the list is to turn every one of the trees in your yard into a Christmas tree. Select large, bright ornaments and string them along each one of your trees. For your porch, dangle ornaments on garland.

Sounds really pretty. I came up with an idea a few years back. I bought a plastic snow shovel, wrapped the handle in red and green ribbons, tied a big red bow on top, and then cut a piece of batting to look like snow sliding off the shovel. I put a note on the handle by the bow that said, "Christmas list: 1. Snow at Christmas." That's something we virtually never have around here, so it's an honest wish.
