Cutting down your own Christmas tree is an experience like no other. This has become a great tradition in our family that is always done the day after Thanksgiving. Like many families, choosing between a real and fake tree this year has become quite a dilemma due to the harsh economy. Have no fear, real Christmas tree lovers, below is a list of inexpensive choose and cut Christmas tree farms around the Knoxville area.

1. Skunk Ridge Tree Farm (Anderson County) 1203 Mountain Rd., Norris. (865) 494-0214 or (865) 548-1646 Owner: Martha Hamner. They have three varieties of trees; White and Scotch Pines, and Fraser Firs. Open 7 days a week. Monday - Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Their cost is $15 - $50 depending on size. Visit their website for directions and more info www.skunkridge.com. 2. Vineyard Christmas Tree Farm (Hamblen County) 1290 Kidswell Ridge Rd., Morristown. (423) 587-4176 Owners: David and Teresa Vineyard. Their only selection of trees is White Pines. Open 7 days but close at dark. Monday-Friday open at 4 p.m. Saturday open at 10 a.m. and Sundays open at 1 p.m. Their cost is $3.00/ft. which makes a 6 ft. tree $18.00. 3. Saunders Christmas Trees (Hamblen County) 1689 Pleasant View Dr. Talbott. (423)581-8239 Owners: Ron and Jeanie Saunders. Their selection of trees is limited to White Pine and Blue Spruce. Open 7 days a week but close at dark. Monday - Friday open at 4:30 p.m. Saturdays open at 8 a.m. Sundays open at 1 p.m. Their cost is $3.50-$4.50/ft. which makes a 6 ft. tree $21.00 - $27.00. They also offer hot cider while you are shopping for your tree. Please call for directions and more info.

4. JKL Christmas Tree Farm (Knox County) 4019 Wayne Dr., Knoxville. (865) 637-1897 Owner: Jerald Limbaugh. Their selections of trees include White Pine, Norwegian Spruce, and Fraser Fir. Open 7 days a week. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Their cost for Pine is $4.00/ft. and others is $5.00/ft. which makes a 6 ft. Pine $24.00 and $30.00 for the others. 5. Jansch Nursery (Morgan County) 1816 Knoxville Hgwy., Wartburg. (423) 346-8733 Owners: Jim Whaley and Becky Jansch. Their selections of trees are Norway Spruce, Hemlock, and Fraser Fir. Open 7 days a week. Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m.-7p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Their cost begins at $25.00. 6. Buttermilk Christmas Tree Farm (Loudon County) 7000 Buttermilk Rd., Lenoir City. (865) 986-5065 Owner: Steve Lockett. Their tree selection is between the White Pine and Norway Spruce. Open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and available for appointments Monday-Fridays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Their cost begins at $27.00 for a White Pine under 7 ft. 7. Dimmick's Choose & Cut Christmas Tree Farm (Knox County) 901 McFee Rd., Farragut. (865) 966-9517 or (865) 310-9518 Owners: Ralph & Susanna Dimmick. The trees they offer are White and Scotch Pines. Open weekends only from 8 a.m. until dark. By appointment also offered. Their cost is $5.00/ ft. which makes a 6ft. tree $30.00. They also offer spiced tea.     Vineyard Tree Farm in Morristown TN is CLOSED!!! Writer of article did not contact owners for info and this tree farm is closed.

    This is a good write up. I always get lost going to the place on Wayne Rd and am glad to know about the others. What a fun family outing!
