Inexpensive Clever Tips, Ideas and Games to Play with Mom on Her Special Day!
You Don't Need a Big Budget to Have a Great Mother's Day This Year!
Dress Up Mom - Grab a bag or suitcase full of crazy clothes for your mom to wear. It could be filled with big oversized boxer shorts, a funny hat, a men's tie, men's work boots or just about anything that you can find. Pull out the suitcase and tell mom she's going on a trip but first she has to get ready. Use a scarf to cover mom's eyes and tell her she has to open the suitcase and dress up for her trip. (of course she'll put the clothes over what she is already wearing) This is such a funny game to play and to watch! Be sure to take pictures of her outfit when she's finished.
Home Made - When it's made by the hand it comes from the heart and every mother loves home made treasures. So a few days before have each person in the family make her a special homemade gift. There a thousands of ideas on the internet but a favorite is the "Love Coupon Book". Have each person make a coupon that mom can redeem for something. An older sister might give her a free night of baby sitting or a little one might read HER a bedtime story. Once each person has created their coupon make a cute cover and staple the corner. This is truly a gift that keeps on giving long after the holiday.
Treasure Hunt - This is one of our favorites and it's very easy. Send your Mom on a treasure hunt for her gift. First create a plan - will the hunt be throughout the house or around the neighborhood. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it. Then figure out where you're going to put the clues. Some ideas would be "where you make our toast every morning" or "Fido's favorite watering hole" (the dog bowl). Be creative with your ideas and at the very last spot place her gift. This is a really fun activity for everyone because it's almost as much fun following her around as it is playing the game.
Favorite Story - This is another really wonderful way to share with her how special she is. Gather around for a moment (this could be at dinnertime) and asked everyone to share their favorite story about Mom. You'll be very surprised at the wonderful memories that come up.
Spa Day at Home - Sure you could send Mom to a spa or give her a certificate but why not create it at home. Begin with a invitation that reads "Mom, you deserve to relax and enjoy your day! Welcome to _________ (insert your last name here) Spa! Lead her to the bathroom and inside you've lit candles, create a cozy warm bath full of bubbles, put her favorite book on a small table nearby and have a glass of bubbly or a cool drink for her as well. Be sure to have some soothing music playing in the background and a nice towel standing by. Finally this part is very important, take everyone outside or go on a nice walk for about an hour and let Mom enjoy this undisturbed and guilt free.
Instead of just rushing out and buying flowers or a last minute gift, this year take the time to make this Mother's Day really special.
