Inexpensive Craft Ideas to Turn Boring Walls Beautiful

Whether you are a strapped college student or a frugal mom, you still can afford to cover the walls of your home with beautiful, free art. All you will need to buy is a picture frame (purchasing them from the dollar store is a wise choice) and a few nails, and you can instantly transform those walls from dull to fabulous. Here's how to do it.

The first place to look for free art is downtown at the local bars and clubs which feature live music. These places likely hand out free flyers for upcoming shows which could be used as cool art for the wall. Tape a bunch of flyers side by side to fill a large poster frame and hang. You've just created an interesting work of abstract art which is sure to make a great conversation piece.

The next place to look for free art is in old magazines and newspapers. Most homes subscribe to at least one magazine and most magazines have usable art included inside. For example, you could cut out pictures of apples and oranges from a magazine and paste them to a piece of paper. Place the paper in an appropriate sized frame and voila, instant art for your kitchen walls.

Another source for free art is can labels. Carefully take the label off of the can and cut only the front portion, where the "art" is, into a neat square or rectangle. Paste these can labels together and put into a picture frame or poster frame and hang. This makes a great conversation piece when placed on a dining room wall. Glass jars sometimes come with labels as well, think of pickles, which can also be used for this type of free art.

Received a piece of junk mail or an actual letter with an interesting stamp? You can cut the stamp from the envelope and use it as free art! Paste the stamp onto a piece of paper and stick it in a frame and hang on the wall in groupings. A group of four stamps in four small square frames can make great art when you have little wall space in which to hang your art.

If you happened to get a post card or a nice card in the mail you can frame it and use it as a beautiful piece of free art. This type of free art would be great for hanging on the fridge. All you need to buy is a magnetic photo frame which can usually be purchased at a dollar store or drug store for little money. For less than a few dollars the front of your fridge will be transformed from boring white to colorful and bright!

Using these ideas you can fill your walls with free art that will help beautify your space and give you some interesting conversation pieces as well. For just a few dollars you can fill a wall with your free art using inexpensive frames purchased from dollar or drug stores.
