Graduation season is here and thousands of relatives will scramble to find the perfect gift for their graduating students, many will think money is the best gift that they can give but that's a fleeting gift and is often spent long before the graduate goes to college.

If you do want to give money consider giving to the student's college fund. Does the student have a 529 account? If they do, any money donated to the 529 is tax free. If the student doesn't have that 529 account, ask their parents if they have opened a savings account and offer to deposit an amount to it directly. This way the money can be used while they're in school and not to fund a summer of fun.

Another great college gift for students is to create a gift basket containing items with their college's logo. Use candy and other dorm room foods as filler and add things like college logoed sweat shirts, tee shirts, and hats to be used through out the school year. To find out which college student is attending, just ask their parents.

Buying things for the dorm room is another way to help new graduates. Purchase appliances and other items that they can use in their dorm room really help the student. Many parents have a good idea of what their student will need in order to live in a dorm room and have a list of need items. Gift certificates to places such as Wal-Mart and other retailers can be used to buy sheets and other items needed to live away from home.

In these hard economic times many students are finding that they can't afford to attend college. At the if your graduate is one of those kids who was not going to college this year the then you may want to consider the following gift basket containing a variety of things to help them get a job some idea to include are career counseling, money for vocational classes, a gift certificates to purchase business clothing, and the book, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. This is the best book out there when it comes to understand how to get financial freedom when you don't have a lot of money. The best part is that it's written in a way that almost anyone can understand.

Buying graduation gifts doesn't have to be stressful or exhausting. When you're buying items consider the personality of his graduate that you're buying for in their needs for the future.
