Inexpensive Holiday and Christmas Gift Ideas

Flint Mclintock
The holidays are fast approaching and with that comes the task of buying gifts for those you love and care for. Christmas can be a especially expensive and stressful time of year. Most of us have had the experience of purchasing gifts in December on credit or store cards only to end up having to pay off the balances well into the following year. Its not a very pleasant feeling and one which I'm sure most of us would rather avoid. Last minute gift buying can result in a expensive night out. Grabbing what is available instead of shopping from a list is a result of poor planning and can really add to the bottom line if you are not careful. Having a well thought out list of who you are going to buy for and what each gift recipient would like increases your chances of coming under budget with your Christmas giving and will show that you have put some thought into each gift.

Gifts do not have to be expensive to show how much you care for someone. Unless you know some one really well stay away from clothes as a gift idea. They can often be quite expensive and you are taking a risk that they will not fit the intended recipient or will be something they will not enjoy wearing. Think of simple gifts that come from the heart. A young couple that is just starting a family might enjoy a photo album that can hold the many pictures that they will invariably be taking. Give them a disposable camera for good measure to get them started with their picture taking. A gift of a scented candle or two might be in order for someone who loves candles. These can often be purchased quite reasonably. Is someone on your list a reader? Pick up a bestseller or some paperback novels in the genre that they would enjoy. If they have children in their home purchase some additional books for them based on their age. Most parents want to encourage their children to read more and they will appreciate the thought of giving books as gifts for their children. Inexpensive bottles of wine can be purchased for the wine drinkers on your Christmas list. Look for specials on wines early in the year and you can find some great deals. Many people feel stressed out at holiday time. What better way to ring in the new year than a trip to a spa. Good deals can usually be found on gift certificates if you check around. Do you know someone who likes to tan in the winter? One month tanning specials can be quite cheap. Treat someone you know to a months worth of tanning and you will have a gift that keeps giving on into the winter months.

Your gift giving can be a fun and rewarding experience if you put some thought into it. Plan well in advance of the holiday season who you are going to buy a gift for and what you think they would appreciate. You are only limited by your imagination and your wallet of course but this should be one of the most fun and rewarding activities of the holiday season. Show how much you love, care and appreciate those dearest to you by giving a gift that shows you really have put some thought and effort into the gift they receive.
