Shop major department stores.
Many clothing stores do not have a maternity section. And of the ones that do, most are overpriced. However, you can purchase inexpensive maternity clothes from Kmart, Wal-mart, Burlington Coat Factory, and Old Navy. These stores don't increase the price of an item just because it is for expectant mothers.
Shop via the internet if you don't have these stores in your area. You want inexpensive maternity clothes so maximize your savings online by buying items that are on clearance. Also, buy all of your clothing with one purchase to save on shipping charges.
Super size it.
Who says that inexpensive maternity clothes have to be "maternity"? Depending on how you are carrying, you may be able to purchase regular sized clothing a few sizes larger than you normally wear. In this case, be sure to purchase items that have a lot of give in the waist and hip areas. This works well if you are looking for a particular style of clothing but are unable to find a maternity version of it.
Check out thrift stores.
Second hand shops are also a great way to find inexpensive maternity clothes. Often times you can find clothing in good condition because maternity items are used for such a brief period of time. You may even find clothing with the tags still on them or name brand items. Here are some tips if you are new to shopping at thrift stores.
Pay nothing at all.
Inexpensive maternity clothes are great, but free maternity clothing is even better! Let others know that you are pregnant and you may be surprised at the outpouring of free clothes that you are offered. Many mothers are glad to pass their gently used maternity clothing on to the next expectant mother.
And believe it or not, the men in your life can provide some apparel as well. Your spouse, brother, dad or any male for that matter who is larger than you and who will let you raid his closet is an asset. You may be able to borrow oversized shirts or shorts with elastic in them that are a perfect fit while you are expecting.
Also, hold on to your maternity clothing for awhile once you have your baby. Pack the clothes away or hang them in the back of the closet - just in case. You can always give them away once you are absolutely certain that you won't need them again.
There are many costs involved in becoming a parent. So utilize the above tips for getting inexpensive maternity clothes so that you can spend less on clothing and more on your baby.
