Camping, canoeing, and the like are all a lot of fun and not too expensive. A weekend canoeing or tubing makes a great mini summer vacation. There are campgrounds and canoe liveries that cater towards families, and others that tend to cater to a more adult crowd. You will want to get details with regards to amenities, pricing, and the ranges of trips available.

Inexpensive Michigan Summer Entertainment Idea #2 - Take advantage of family cottages or cabins.

You might be fortunate enough to have a family that owns a cabin or cottage in northern Michigan. If you do, make the most of it. Chances are that you will end up spending more time with your family and make some great memories. Just be sure that you let your family know that you would like to use the cottage or cabin.

Inexpensive Michigan Summer Entertainment Idea #3 - Visit the lake shore.

If you are in Michigan, you are close to both inland lakes and the Great Lakes. Why not take advantage of it? If nothing else, you can locate a public park near the lake. The best-case scenario, you have friends or family that live near the lake or have a boat. There is nothing than being out on a Michigan lake during the brief Michigan summer.

There are a lot of putt-putt golf courses all over Michigan, and it is a lot of fun, especially for kids. If you have kids, there is nothing more fun that taking them for an afternoon or evening of putt-putt golf. You can make an event out of it by then grabbing something to eat

It seems though every city in Michigan has festivals and other types of events throughout the summer. For example, in Bay City alone, the summer brings the River Roar, the Pig Gig, St. Stan's Polish Festival, the James Clements Air Show, the River of Time in September, and more. There is always something to do during those summer weekends and it normally doesn't cost much to participate. Why not find out what's going on not only where you live, but locations that you have an interest to visit as well? You might be surprised at what going on this summer.

No matter how you decide to spend the summer in Michigan, it is fleeting and should be enjoyed to the fullest. There are many great ways to create memories with your family without breaking the bank. With a little thought and preparation, you can turn a trip to the lake, a festival, or a campground and canoe livery into a very special day that your kids will remember forever. If you are traveling from southern Michigan and heading Up North, you can make some great stops along the way. If you are heading to Traverse City or Mackinaw via Interstate 75, West Branch can be a wonderful stop for those needing to shop, eat, or just need a break. Just remember that summer entertainment in Michigan doesn't need to be expensive.
