The kitchen is one of the most used rooms of our homes (that is if you do any cooking at all and don't totally rely on takeout). We cook in our kitchen. We make messes in our kitchen. We even often times socialize in our kitchen.

But after a while, our kitchen become boring to us. We want to update it. Yet, updating or remodeling this room can be the most expensive remodeling job you can start. If you start replacing plumbing fixtures, cabinets and appliances, you can be spending a lot of money.

Yet, there are little ways you to make your kitchen look different, without spending a lot of money or without calling a contractor.

The first thing that can change any room is by changing its color. This could be something as simple as painting the walls. Women know what color can do for them. Well, color can work wonders for their kitchens as well. And you don't have to play it safe when it comes to your kitchen. You can be a little dramatic and it will still look good. Your best bet is to consider your whole kitchen when choosing a new color. Get a paint sample from your local store and then place it near your cabinets, your counter top and your appliances. As long as the color works with these major items it will work in your kitchen.

Another thing you might want to change is the flooring? No, don't think carpet. Carpet is never a wise choice in a kitchen. Spills will happen. If you have children, they will happen even quicker. Carpet will also pick up all those scents and you know our kitchen our filled with scents. You can go with a new pattern or color in tile or linoleum. You can even go with hard wood flooring or fake hard wood flooring.

You can also add some color in some unexpected places in your kitchen. By adding color to your counter top, you will be adding splash. First, decide what color would add some defintion to your kitchen. A lot of people likes to go with red or yellow. You can buy pots and pans that have a little color around the lids. Small appliances even come in color now. This includes toasters, microwaves, and can openers.

What about your kitchen furniture? Is it time for a new table? Maybe you might want to go for a different type of table? You might want to go smaller this time? Or maybe you want to go without the table and buy a breakfast set instead. A breakfast set will usually come with a couple bar stool type seats. You might be amazed at must how often these tables and stools are used. The table usually have a small storage on one side of it, as well.

How is your storage areas in your kitchen? If you have the room? Maybe you could add more cabinets or a buffet? Even a small microwave cart, can be useful and stylish looking.

As you are decorating your kitchen, don't forget the curtains. You definitely should think about getting new curtains, possibly in a different style. Cafe curtains is one style that always look good in a kitchen.

What else can you do? What about adding plants? Do you have enough sun? If not, maybe you add some realistic looking fake plants.

What about a new centerpiece for your table or if you are going with a breakfast set, maybe you might want to add a small tea set.

Sometimes little changes can give a room a new look.

Ohj! We are nearing the end of completely redoing the kitchen. I am talking new everything: floor, ceiling, wallpaper, paneling, countertops, tiles... We did it all ourselves and it still cost us a small fortune. But man... it is like walking into a totally different house and I adore it. Well worth all the effort and money.
