If you are like me, you love to bring a touch of Christmas to every room in your house. I love to have reminders of Christmas in my kitchen, especially when I'm baking the dozens of Christmas cookies and making the holiday meals. In these hard times, it's hard to justify spending extra money on Christmas decorations, so here are some inexpensive ideas to bring cheer to your kitchen.

The most inexpensive way to decorate is to buy your decorations on clearance after Christmas. But, even if you don't there are a lot of ways you can decorate on a budget. Dollar stores, such as the Dollar Tree, have many attractive decorations. They are a great place to find inexpensive Christmas dish towels, pot holders, small rugs and other assorted knick knacks. Place these items around the kitchen and it already looks more cheerful.

The focal point of your decorations should be your kitchen table. If you are creative, a homemade centerpiece made with evergreen, a candle and Christmas ribbon can work well. You can also display a large clear bowl with floating Christmas candles shaped as snowflakes, holly or trees. For underneath your display, you can find beautiful holiday runners at Target, Marshall's and TJ Maxx.

Some people prefer to display a Christmas tablecloth with Christmas dishes and glassware. Websites such as Collectionetc.com offer beautiful and inexpensive Christmas tablecloths, runner and napkin sets and matching chair covers.

Candles can play an important role in bringing Christmas cheer to your kitchen. Seasonal candles can bring a touch of cinnamon, pine, apple or mint to the air and stir all the holiday memories. Kohl's always seems to have some beautifully decorated candles and they are always on sale. Dollar Tree and Rite-Aid also offer great smelling candles at affordable prices.

If you have space on top of your cabinets or on shelves, display a set of Christmas dishes. You can also decorate this space with garland, artificial or real, decorated with pretty Christmas ribbon. If you are really ambitious you can add lights to your garland. Another way to use garland in your kitchen, is around the windows and door frames.

Have your children join in the decorating fun. Have them make you some decorations. They can make a small construction paper tree for the middle of your table. Or perhaps they would like to cut out stars, Christmas trees and snowflakes to stick up on the kitchen windows.

Finally, don't forget the Christmas music. Set up a radio or speaker in your kitchen. Some contagious Christmas music makes all the chores go easier and faster.
