Sparkly New Year's Ball

This inexpensive craft is great for middle school kids because it can be hung year round in their bedroom. For this New Year's craft you will need sequins, small beads, glue, a foam ball, ribbon, scissors, and wire. Help middle school children cut the wire into inch long pieces and bend them in half.

Then help kids thread a bead on each piece of wire. Then push the wire through the hole in the sequin and add some glue to the ends. Help middle school children push the wire and sequin into the foam ball. Cover the entire ball this way. Before you add the final sequin, cut a piece of ribbon. Thread the ribbon onto the wire after the sequin and bead. Then push the final sequin into the ball. When the glue has dried middle school kids can hang the sparkly New Year's ball wherever they like.

Resolution Calendar

Another inexpensive New Year's craft that middle school kids can enjoy throughout the year is a resolution calendar. For this craft you will need paper, a computer, printer, a word processing program, stapler, and colored pencils. Start by explaining resolutions to kids, and ask them to figure out what there resolution will be.

Then help kids design a calendar using a template on the computer. Print the calendar out on the paper. Help middle school kids identify steps they need take to complete their resolutions. Then let the kids draw images that represent the ideas on the back of each calendar page. Finally staple all of the pages together. Middle school kids will love hanging their calendar in the beginning of the new year.
