I've been married for 7 years and trying to get pregnant for 5 years. It's been lots fun trying but no results. So, my husband had the bright idea of In Vitro. I decided if I'm going to do this I might as well share my story with the world. You never know my story may help many women.
After long deliberation I decided what the hell let's go for it! I started by doing my research. I looked up every Fertility Specialist in a 25 mile radius. It's very important to me that I know who is working on me and what experience they have. During my research I actually found that many doctors are involved with ongoing research. This was very impressive to me.
Two months passed and I still had about 5 doctors to choose from. Oddly enough I realized that 4 out of the 5 doctors worked together. I automatically knew this was a sign and decided to go with The Reproductive Group with Dr. Bernhisel. Now it was time to set the appointment. Honestly making that first phone call was nerve wrecking. My palms were sweaty and my heart was beating rapidly. To my relief the woman on the other end of the phone was a sweetheart and relieved all of my anxieties.
One week later it was time for my first appointment and exam. I arrived 20 minutes early to complete paperwork. This is definitely a good idea if you set an appointment. There were about 5 forms to fill out before the exam. Once my paperwork was complete I was taken back to the doctor's private office. This is were we went over the outs and ins of my history. We started a plan and actually put it into play the same day.
Dr. Bernhisel had a good idea of what the problem was. There is a condition called PCOS. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, ability to have children, hormones, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. He performed a basic pelvic exam which is uncomfortable but tolerable enough. Also, I had a sonogram of my Ovaries to confirm PCOS and my Uterus to make sure my lining was healthy.
The whole process took about an hour and was almost totally painless. I had a diagnosis and a plan to help me with my infertility. Upon leaving I set up an appointment for 1 week for a procedure called HSG. This visit racked up a bill of about $2500.00 which is not too bad I guess. This is just the beginning of what I know is going to be a very long journey.
