Infidelity: Why Some Men Cheat

It is estimated that about 75% of men who are either married or involved in serious relationships cheat. That means three men out of every four practice infidelity. The most disturbing thing however is the revelation that the time men take before engaging in extra marital affairs from the time of engagement has drastically reduced from what it used to be in the past Today, it is believed that most men who cheat are even doing it within the first three years engagement. Newspaper and Internet classifieds now are even speckled with personals that read: "Married male in search of single woman for a discrete but no strings attached relationship" And you wonder where the world is going.

What's going on here? What is the cause of the recent surge in male infidelity? This can be attributed to many factors, but perhaps the most overriding reason as to why men are cheating at an alarming rate is due to the fact that it's easier than ever before. Long gone are the times when a man and his lover(s) just communicated by calling each other's home, letting the telephone ring once and hanging up. With technological advances such as mobile cell phones, voice mail e-mail, internet e.t.c, a man with a cheating heart can carry on a side relationship without much fear of getting caught, virtually staying in touch with the other woman throughout the day without his wife or partner having the slightest clue of what is going on.

The emergence of workplace diversity has made the job site the catchments area and a rendezvous hot spot for socialization. Women are more than ever before on the job market in record numbers, occupying every position from secretary to the Managing Director. This situation puts men and women virtually in direct contact with one another on a daily basis. The work place has therefore become the hub of hooking up. Many men use the pretext of Office matters to hoodwink their wives or partners that they were still busy at the Office yet he was still being entertained by either a female colleague, or a twilight girl picked on the street. While both women and men are taking advantage of the workplace, it is obvious that men are twice as much doing for one obvious reason: because he wants to and some lack the impulse-control to suppress his wants. Unlike women who fantasize about extramarital romance but are able to separate it from reality, men are unable to distinguish between mental longings, desires and physical transgressions until it's too late.

This doesn't mean, by any means, that all men cheat. There are solid men all around, as evident by the number of couples celebrating their 30(and above)-year wedding anniversaries in many places of the world.
But for the ones who do cheat, the reasons vary. For some men, cheating feeds their ego of domination over women. For others, it feeds their misguided illusions that a man's ego is based on among other things his role and ability to conquer as many women as possible, and a woman's sole purpose in life is to please them as they want. And still others indulge in it because of its intoxicating effects, providing an adrenaline rush. Most of the times, many men have the false impression that they cheat simply to have uncommitted sex. This sounds unrealistic considering the fact that most men find extra marital affairs even more fulfilling.

Another reason why men cheat is that women seem to stand for it: Men wouldn't cheat if women didn't let them. Some women get married to men who have cheated on them during courtship, despite the old adage that a man, who cheats on his girlfriend, will probably cheat on his wife. This is because the world is filled with scores of lonely women looking for men to love. Men, on the other hand are well aware that the loneliness some women feel is so high that they are willing to settle for even a cheater, and assume that they will be able to make them change. At the end of the day these women would rather spend time with a cheater than no man at all. Some women are also the cause of men's infidelity. While rarely talked about, many men when taken to task will readily admit the suffering they undergo on the hands of their wives when they ask for their conjugal rights. Men who have been denied love and sex in particular will stop at nothing sort of settling for a secret lover to offer the much needed service! The reasons why a man may be denied sex by the wife may include disagreement over finances among other things.

  • Whether a man considers cheating a role playing or more thrilling, nothing just it.
  • A man who cheats on his spouse can admit as such but women may not admit the same.
  • Men want to be forgiven when found cheating but they are unlikely to forgive their cheating spouses.
