As of right now, there aren't too many details that have been released by Infiniti. Many questions are left open, but the most important question has been answered. Will it be a soft top or hard top? Well you guessed it! The convertible G37 will use a three piece, automated, steel hardtop. At the press of a button, the top will open and fold into the rear of the car, behind the back seats. Now, if you have been in the backseat of a G37, you know the rear seating is very limited. The bigger question about the convertible G is how much of that rear seating has been taken away in order to store this hardtop in the rear behind the seats. The answer has not been released yet. Infiniti knows there is much dissatisfaction with the rear space configurations, so I'm sure they will be working on it. We know the car will seat four people, just like all other G coupes. I'm sure everyone is hoping Infiniti will not make a mistake and decrease space again. The company knows owners want more head and leg room in the rear seat. I actually think they will increase the space in the rear. That will be a very good thing for the coupe.
Only one engine type will be available for the convertible G. It is pretty similar to most of the other Gs. It will produce 328 horsepower of course using a 3.7-liter V6. You can opt to get an automatic or manual transmission on the convertible as well. We also know that the car will use Infiniti's all-wheel drive system. You can expect the same speed results as any other G. More than likely the car will get you from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds and will easily travel over 140mph (if you are into driving at excessive speeds).
There has been no information released on pricing yet as well. I would assume based on the history of the G coupes that the car will probably start around $41,000. Right now, a G37 coupe runs around $37-42,000. If you have not driven a G coupe yet, and you are interested in a convertible, I would definitely keep this car in mind. It will compete with the BMW 3-series and Mercedes CLK. I have compared the G coupes to the BMW 3-series and prefer the Infiniti as you get more "bang for your buck." The car will make it's first appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008. This will definitely be a car to look for next Spring!
