Infomercial Product Review: Urine Gone

The Pros and Cons of Urine Gone

Eisla Sebastian
Urine Gone is a cleaning product that states that it is one of the most effective urine removal agents on the market. Not only does it claim to eliminate the smell associated with urine stains, but it also claims to remove the discoloration from the urine stain. While there are many pet odor removers, and pet stain removers on the market, I do agree that Urine Gone is one of the most effective urine smell and stain removers available.

Pros of Urine Gone

Urine Gone is effective at removing the urine smell left from pet accidents and people accidents. I used this product at my grandparents' home where incontinence accidents were frequent. Not only did this product remove the urine stain spot and smell, it left behind a very subtle and pleasant fragrance, unlike some of the other urine removal products that had more of a chemical smell to them.

Another advantage of this product is that it is easy to use. You simple pat dry the urine spot, spray apply the product, and let it dry. There is no scrubbing required. However, if it is an older stain a little elbow grease may be needed to thoroughly saturate the stain and lift up dried particles.

In addition to its great cleaning abilities, Urine Gone also provides you with enough product to clean a large area several times over. The bottle is substantial and provides you with a lot of cleaning power. One bottle used daily for several small accidents lasted me three months. Of course the size of the stain, or area that needs to be cleaned, as well as how much of the product that you use at each cleaning will determine how long your bottle of Urine Gone will last.

The final "pro" of Urine Gone is that it often comes with a black light that you can use to detect old urine stains that aren't visible to the naked eye. This is a great tool to have if you are moving into a new apartment and want to know where to clean, or if you have a baby and pets and want to make sure that the area where the baby plays is urine free.

Cons of Urine Gone

While I think that this product is excellent, it does have a few drawbacks. The first drawback is that it is an expensive product costing on average $19.99 per bottle plus shipping and handling costs. Other similar products on the mart cost about a quarter of this price.

The second drawback is that you have to wait for it to be delivered to you before you can use it. Depending on the company that you order it from, you may be waiting months before it arrives. Most infomercial companies promote a shipping time of 4 to 6 weeks even with rush delivery.

Another drawback to this product is that a sticky residue will build up if you clean the same area over and over again. To help minimize sticky residue wait until the Urine Gone has dried and the smell is gone and then either steam clean or shampoo the area. You will not want to shampoo or steam clean the are before the Urine Gone has thoroughly dried because that will deactivate the cleaning enzymes in the product and it will not work.

The final drawback to this product is that the black light that is often times sent with the product is small and flimsy. It does not illuminate a very large area and it will take some fiddling with to get it to work, if it works at all.

Recommendations for Maximizing the Benefits of Urine Gone

One of the biggest drawbacks to this product is that it has to be ordered online or by phone. Because you can't usually find this product in a department store, you have to wait for it to arrive in the mail. With the added postage expense and the high retail price of this product researching for the best price is critical. To ensure that you get your product as soon as possible I would highly recommend reviewing customer comments to make sure that they deliver in a timely manner. Some companies out there take months to ship their infomercial products. Order direct from the Urine Gone company or from an official As-Seen-On-TV store to reduce the amount of time it takes for you to get your product.

In addition to getting your products sooner, you can also reduce the amount of money that you spend on your order of Urine Gone for ordering by phone when a commercial offers a buy one get one free sale. Sometimes these sale offers also include free shipping, which will save you another $10. These buy one get one free offers don't usually include the black light, but that is fine, as it is a bit flimsy anyway.

This stuff WORKS!!! I never heard of it till I was in Walgreen day before yesterday. It was a little expensive but I thought, "w-t-heck, nothing beats a failure but a try", than cashed out. It was $10 but it was worth every dime *huge smile*! I own a male min pin & presently stuck w/ 3 pups. All but the female pup is house-broken. I got to work w/ Urine Gone & even put it on old stinkie spots that contribute to my house stinking *phew*. Now everyone says my house no longer smells! Hahaha I luv it =)

I got caught on an automated phone order system and could not cancel. I have tried numerous times to speak with a representative, but had no real luck. They shipped me some sort of kit that I did not want and charged $27.90. I returned the order that I did not want (or order) & they only reimbursed the cost of the product - not the shipping. I spoke with a couple of people at the only number I could obtain immediately after the phone order fiasco and was told that they couldn't help me until the order shipped. I am frustrated by the shyster-like treatment by this company. The automated phone order system doesn't give any options to get out of it once you are past a certain point & the "customer service representatives" do not really care about the customer at all. I don't even care if it works at this point. I don't want to deal with a company who won't be there to help with questions and concerns!! Seems to me like they just want to get the money.

Hmm, I don't know why some people aren't getting results with UrineGone.. it works for me! I've used it on yellow spots from a dog and they disappear! The blacklight shows some stains that I don't know what they are sometimes (sometimes it's obviously pee), but it works on them too. I DO know that if some stains are barely wet then that won't do the trick... you really have to just soak things real good and then let them dry. Other urine products might actually work better but I have no experience with them and just wanted to say that in my experience UrineGone does work.

this stuff is great. i'm on my second bottle. i'm using it on my carpet for my puppy's accidents. i will say that it takes a few times to get the actual stain out, but the smell is gone once it has dried. if your're looking more for stain removal, try oxy magic by clorox. as for the individual who couldn't figure out the light, look inside for the pos/neg directions-that's where i found it, but hard to see.

Tried Urine-Gone and it was a waste of money. Bought Urine-Off (similiar name but appears to be a real company with a real website) at the suggestion of my vet and it worked great! DOn't waste your money on Urine-Gone.

The product works well, but the blacklight doesn't work on detecting cat pee, it just made me feel like dancing at a disco.

I just bought it and can't figure out how the batteries go in the flimsy little "black light"--you have to cram them in with no directions on positive/negative connections and they go in so tightly you can't get them out!

It kind of worked for me, I had an old cat pee stain on a mattress. I really got it to eliminate the visible stain, which it didn't really do. I used the product a couple of times and rubbed as hard as I could and let it dry. It didn't seem to do much. Then I used Hydrogen Peroxide on the stain and applied a little bit of baking soda when it was almost dry and the stain faded a little bit. Then I used Urine-gone two more times until the bottle ran out, and the stain continued to fade. It's barely noticeable now. But I imagine that it works much much better on fresher stains. All in all I think Hydrogen Peroxide and baking soda probably the best bet.

This stuff is worthless. I used it on cat pee and it made the smell worse, a lot worse. It must be made of cat pee.

I used the little black light to find some old pet stains, sprayed the product, let dry,as per instructions. No effect, it still showed up in the black light the next day. I also tried this product on a mattress, old stains so I scrubbed and applied 4 times (letting dry completely each time) - NO EFFECT. The stains were unaffected by the product. I am sadly disappointed
