Whether passing by the big Texas cities such as Dallas or Houston, the historic San Antonio, the fishing villages of the Gulf Coast or the tropical Padre Island, there are rest stops found along various Texas roads. These areas typically provide picnic areas, pet walks, restrooms, vending machines, travel and map information, pay phones, and sometimes even an RV dump station. A number of rest stops already offer Wi-fi internet services as well.

Many travelers do their research online using the websites of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (tpwd.state.tx.us), Texas Campgrounds (texascampgrounds.com), and Go Camping America (gocampingamerica.com).
