Every summer I get a bad case of dry, itchy, painful dermatitis on my elbows. I don't know if it's eczema which causes red, swollen and itchy skin or psoriasis which is a skin disease that causes itchy and sore patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales. It's annoying but never been bad enough to warrant a trip to the doctor. Over the years I have just rubbed a little of over-the-counter hydrocortisone on my elbows when the itch gets too bad and rode it out until fall when it mysteriously goes away.
Last Christmas a friend gave me a 17.7 oz. jar of Ingram's Camphor Cream. She told me that she can't live without it and uses it on her dry feet and chapped hands in the winter. I opened the jar, took a whiff and put it in my linen closet. It's not that the smell was that bad, but it definitely smelled like some type of medicine. I then forgot about it until this summer when I was doing my belated spring cleaning. I was getting ready to throw it away and noticed the back that said: "A non-greasy cream for soothing, nourishing and protecting dry, chapped, sore hands, elbows..." I didn't need to read any further. Elbows....... hmmmmmm........I wonder.......
I started rubbing Ingram's Camphor Cream on my elbows 3-4 times a day. After 3 days my elbows were feeling better--the pain was gone and they were a little softer but still itching. I kept using the cream daily and after 8 days the dermatitis was completely gone. I wish I would have had the forethought to take before and after pictures to prove how well it works. I know that a picture paints a thousand words, but even without the picture I can attest to it's effectiveness.
Ingram's Camphor Cream worked for me but I am not implying that it will cure every skin irritation. Please see your doctor if you have a rash or an ongoing skin condition.
Ingram's Camphor Cream calls itself the Skin Doctor and is manufactured in South Africa where it has been sold for over 70 years. More information about Ingram's Camphor Cream, along with a list of retailers and the ability to shop on line are on their website: www.camphorcream.com. The 17.7 oz. jar cost $10.99 and if you purchase $25.00 or more they usually ship for free in the USA. Ingram's Camphor Cream comes in smaller jars and tubes and they also have a herbal line.

Camphor is an interesting compound! I took quite a few courses on organic chemistry, but this is not why I found it interesting. As you pointed out, it is the aroma. It's totally different from anything else, and is unmistakable. Here is a drawing of its chemical structure:

I applied the cream. The results are so far so good. I wonder, does the cream contain a bleaching agent. Cheers.
