Initiative Analysis Over Royal Oak Equipment Assets Case

As a former political/business consultant, the case of Equipment Assets at 1200 Knowles is very interesting to me. It is a case in which resident of Royal Oak were able to point out a business that was breaking the law, and it is now moving out of the city.

This forum is not the best place to rehash the story. As you already know, Equipment Assets at 1200 Knowles was reported by neighbors for noxious smoke. These neighbors believed that the business that was operating on a rented property was doing work that it was not zoned for. After an investigation by the City, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and other agencies, Equipment Assets was cited, and is now moving.

There is an important lesson to be learned here by Royal Oak residents. If you find a business in your neighborhood that is doing work that you believe is illegal, or that it is not zoned for, speak up. It was the initiative of the neighbors that got this work to stop at Equipment Assets, and have led to the work being moved outside of their neighborhood. Never wait for someone else to take the initiative. Take it yourself.
