Injuries Dominate Friday's NY Giants Practices

2010 Training Camp Not Kind to Giants Thus Far

The New York Giants have been dealing with a myriad of injuries since before the start of 2010 training camp. Things just keep getting worse for Big Blue, as one big name was added to the injury list on Friday.

Wide receiver Steve Smith limped off the practice field with what appears to be a groin injury. Smith has indicated that he does not believe the injury is series, but he will have an MRI to rule out any such injury.

Guard Rich Seubert is out with a broken right hand, and was seen sporting a cast while on the sidelines during Friday practices. The hand will be examined tomorrow and it is possible that Seubert could require surgery.

Defensive tackle Jay Alford, who looked so promising just one year ago, continues to battle problems with his left knee. That is the same knee that kept him off the field for the entire 2009 NFL season. There is worry among some in the organization, as well as Giants fans, that Alford will never physically be able to reach his full potential due to the injury. Only time will tell.

The Giants and the team's fans received one piece of good news on Friday. Safety Kenny Phillips returns to practice on Monday, and not a second too soon.

Injures are part of every training camp, but the Giants have definitively been bitten by the injury bug this summer. Some who have had their eyes on training camp believe the practice field could be the cause of many of the injuries (Smith's groin, Hakeem Nicks' knee, etc.). Others are blaming conditioning. Whatever the cause, the Giants may be scouting UFL games for wide receivers pretty soon.
