Ink and Lead - Poem About Our Mistakes and What We Do to Overcome

There Are Some Things We Can't Erase

Vikas D. Reddy
First you start with a sheet of paper with no time to stop and think,

a few words you write in lead and a few you write in ink.

Each chapter comes anew and so are the mistakes you make,

whether it's ink or lead the blame is yours to take.

You erase what you did wrong but it then becomes a smudge,

to the point where you just want to crumple the paper

and throw it all away.

Your hand grows steady but weak,

the paper fades yellow and decays, and now you realize more than ever

not to flip back another page.

And now there's nothing left to doubt that the ink's been running out,

and all that matters,

is what you've got left to write.
