Inmate Voting

How Insane Does it Get

INMATE VOTING

You knew it had to happen. The knucklehead liberals gave full rights to inmates and now one of them is launching a class action suit against the government. For what? For not being allowed to vote in the last election. I've got to agree with MP Art Hanger on this one. He says any inmate, even those serving less than two years, forfeit their right to anything, most of all having a vote.
Over the years we've all read about the good time the cons get in our ClubFeds and as much as we shake our heads over the 'harsh' treatment they receive, we can't punish them enough. They have to be able to vote, on top of everything else.

Granted, this guy is only suing for 1.5 million for himself and the rest of the 31 million dollar suit is for 50 of his buddies who are claiming the same thing. They were denied the right to vote. I say tough.

Any time someone is convicted of a crime, they give up all their rights as a citizen. Don't treat them inhumanely, but don't treat them with kid gloves either. They are in prison for a reason, to be punished. Of their own free will, they chose to go against the grain and break the laws of the country. I don't agree with every law the government passes, but I do my best to obey them. By doing so, I need not fear harassment from the police, I won't end up in a cell where the previous occupants have urinated all over the mattress I'm supposed to sleep on, I won't need 'rehab' to once again become a good citizen, I won't have a stigma attached to my name that precludes me from freedoms enjoyed by other members of society and I certainly won't have to come up with asinine things such as this to provide me money when I get out. As much as I may dislike it, I'll make my money the old fashioned way, earn it through an honest job.

Our justice system makes it easy enough on prisoners already. Rapists get 5 years and are back on the streets after doing 2 ½ , drug dealers, when they go to prison instead of being handed house arrest, do minimal time because they plea bargain to have charges of illegally possessing illegal guns dropped, people with histories of more than 20 prior convictions get to file outrageous charges because someone before them pissed on the mattress. Apparently criminals 'need' TV's, VCR's, DVD's, !POD's and/or stereo systems, 3 ply toilet paper and a choice between steak and rack of lamb for Sunday dinner. They are allowed to go on strike for 'better conditions'. If the powers that be can't see that the inmates are indeed running the asylum, I don't know what it will take to wake them up to the fact.

This class action suit is less than pathetic and the judge who hears the case should tack on a few years to these prisoners sentences for wasting the courts time. The lawyer representing these bozos should do some time himself.

Nikki, okay. I don't really care one way or the other.

That statement does not mean AC is a blog. It means you can use the feeds from AC, to display on your blog. Call it what you want though, still remains that AC does NOT consider themselves to be a "blog"

Nikki, thank you for clearing that up for me. I'm new to this and didn't know the difference. I appreciate it.

Blog: "an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log"

AC: Associated Content curates and publishes a robust, ever-expanding collection of engaging, insightful, original multimedia content on the Web, connecting information seekers with the knowledge they want and the widest range of diverse content producers.

Okay Luke, enlighten me. What is it?

Yournater: You say that AC is a blog.... it is not a blog. That's all.

Michelle, thanks for reading and your comments. Perhaps I could have written it better, I'll have to work on that. These blogs are not meant to be agreed with all the time, but rather to give a point of view and invite debate. You're right about only felons losing the right to vote, but that's not true here in Canada. Anyway, it wasn't meant like that, but rather my point of view that if you commit any crime, you lose your rights. I would like to see inmates lose all their rights until their time is served and they're done with parole or probation. Maybe that would wake some of these fools up.

Well, it's not well written, and I don't usually agree with you, and it's not true that any time you committ a crime you lose the right to vote (it's only felonies).. but I actually agree with you. If you are rightfully convicted of a felony, you have committed a crime against your fellow man, whatever that crime may be, and you lose some of your right - end of story. Don't want to lose rights, then be responsible and don't commit crimes.. pretty simple in my mind.
