Vincent Tompkins, historian, 1920's era aficionado, Walt Whitman fan, first-time New Yorker, and more is the new head of Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn Heights, reports the Brooklyn Eagle.

He has worked at Harvard. He has worked at Brown University, and now he brings his expertise and his family to good ol' Brooklyn.

How does Brooklyn compare to Tompkins' life in other areas? How's Brooklyn treating him so far?

So far, so good. Tompkins told the Eagle, ""The welcome has been extraordinarily warm, generous and exciting for me and for my family."

Yay! Brooklyn knows how to make people feel at home.

Tompkins' new home is one of the most prestigious schools in the area. It encompasses grades Pre-K to 12 and teaches via an innovative system that is not based upon traditional grades. Saint Ann's curriculum also focuses heavily on the arts. Tuition this year ranges from $22,700 to $29,300 based upon grade level, according to the school's tuition schedule.

Tompkins is only the third headmaster in the school's 45-year history. The first headmaster, Stanley Bosworth, was known as the "pioneer." The second headmaster, Dr. Weiss, was known as the "consolidator." Tompkins hopes to be considered the "innovator," reports the Eagle.

He has quite the legacy to follow. Best wishes to him in his new post.

Till next time, Brooklyn Heights.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
