Insanity Challenge: Getting into Shape and Going Insane at the Same Time

RG
I have decided to take the Insanity Challenge. Is it possible to be insane in 60 days? Insanely fit, that is. In case you are wondering if I have already gone off my rocker, I am referring to the Insanity Workout by Shaun T, one of the newest video fitness program offered by Beachbody. This workout promises to transform the body into tiptop shape taking what would normally need one year to achieve, and condensing it into two months. This workout claims to be the most difficult workout ever put on DVD and I am eagerly waiting to receive my copy by mail. Over the next few months, I will be posting my thoughts, comments, and results as I embark upon this grueling fitness challenge.

Here is my fitness odyssey thus far. I have been using Beachbody videos for about ten years now and I can truly attest that they bring the results they promise. Their motto is Decide, Commit, Succeed and I have found their products work as long as you take the middle word seriously-commit. This means taking the time daily to exercise and eat right.

My first experience with Beachbody was ten years ago when I decided to order the Debbie Siebers Slim in 6 series. I was about 30 pounds overweight and out of shape. After the first video, I could barely walk up my stairs to get to my bedroom. But, I stayed committed to the workouts, followed the diet plan, and eventually lost all of the weight within a few months.

To maintain my weight loss, I ordered another Beachbody series developed by Tony Horton called Power90. Between Debbie Siebers, Tony Horton, jogging, and yoga, I have been able to stay in shape and keep the weight off, but I am feeling less motivated and in need of a fitness challenge.

Fast forward to today. Insanity. As I check my mail daily, I can't help but wonder whether or not I will be able to keep up with the rigorous routines that are designed to make me workout in my own pool of sweat, as Shaun T says.

What is this program anyway? It is 10 workouts that use max interval training. This simply means high intensity exercises over a long period of time with only a few short low intensity exercises. Normally, exercise programs have longer periods of low intensity exercises with high intensity exercises intertwined to keep the heart rate up. But this workout, is cranked up to the highest level with nonstop plyometric drills mixed with strength, power, resistance, and core training. It claims to burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour!

Over the next few months, I promise to tell it like it is as I take on this challenge. Stay tuned as I unveil my Insanity Challenge updates.
