Only a healthy environment in the garden is considered as an essential feature for pest prevention and control. It is the condition of the soil for which the damage happens and insects and fungus play a role. The most significant aspect is the clean conditions of the soil both inside and top that would repel insects and pests. These useless creatures need garbage to grow on. They reside in and beneath weeds, about hedge buttons and in the soil. They prefer old and decayed wood for cover for snails, millipedes and woodlice. Pest eggs, larva and many kinds of fungus live and survive without any disturbance in the soil. Exposure of soil to the sunrays is done by regular cultivation of the soil both before and after planting. Sterilizing rays of sunlight exposes insect eggs that catch the attention of birds especially the ROBIN. Loosening the weed during crop growth weakens the pest's grip on the soil. .
Ventilation is another helpful action in controlling pests. Moist and still air promotes mildew and blight easily. Right spacing of plants permits air to pass, and minimizes humidity of the soil that are advantageous to growth. Sunlight counters against many plant diseases and pest including the checking of blight. Right spacing, cutting high hedges, and cautious pruning of trees make certain that every part of the garden receives a good amount of sunlight everyday.
Reproduction of disease resistant strains of seeds, plants and vegetable are promoted to eliminate plant problem as a long term policy. Particular types of seeds are known to be resistant in some soils developing into healthy seedlings which can be found out easily in seed catalogues.
Garden pests can be destroyed by spraying chemical pesticides very easily. Uses of chemical processes of pest control provide partial solution to the problem. The natural preventive process provides a comprehensive approach to pest control without making any negative effect in the environmental balance.
